The utterly suave and sophisticated sounds of Marcus King will be filling our ears at Strictly Vinyl 003 once again on Sunday night at The Cliff Dive. Having dropped the first ever wax at Strictly Vinyl 001, we wanted to make sure it wasn't too long between visits, which means this weekend we'll be drooling in more disco delights as Marcus plays the closing set from 1-3am straight after Sampology's tropical swag.
How many records do you have in your collection?
Oldest record in your collection?
Most of the records I collect are from the 70s and 80s, but the oldest one would have to be a rock record like the Stooges.
Newest record in your collection?
I would love to have time to listen to more new music, but there are only so many hours in a day. The newest record would have to be my good friends EP, Erik Omen - Grade E. I also designed the art for this one : )
Most expensive record in your collection?
The most expensive record in my collection is from a Venezuelan composer by the name of Daniel Grau - El Leon Bailarin. He made some incredible disco records in the late 70s, early 80s. Check him out!
Which record would you NEVER sell?
This one was hard to find and never ceases to put a smile on my dial. Drums Music Show - Sexi Banana.
What’s the sexiest cover in the collection?
Really depends how you define the word sexy. I have plenty of records containing nudity or airbrushed illustrations of wild sex scenes in space or the jungle. These covers are incredible, but lean more towards a ridiculous and perhaps slightly pornographic feel. The sexiest or perhaps sleaziest looking cover would have to be Kid Creole and the Coconuts - Tropical Gangsters. Brilliant cover and great music.
Best hidden gem you never knew you had?
Can’t really say I have discovered any hidden gems in my collection yet. I’m pretty specific about what I buy.
Where do you buy your records from?
The internet / Discogs these days. Although when I travel I’ll always track down some records. I just got back from Paris, and found some real gems in the flea markets there.
What’s your fave store in Sydney?
Revolve Records. Always something worth grabbing here.
What’s on your slipmatt’s at home?
Not that interesting really. Gold Technics logo on both mats. My record covers are much note interesting with a strong collection of 90s rave stickers, although looking a little worse for ware these days.
