Hailed by inthemix: The New Breed as a “local producer you need to hear” in 2014, Jake Keijzers aka JAWZ is the newest beat-maker to be making a splash in the Australian dance scene.
He’s the 20 year old Sydney producer with the shark teeth who’s debut EP has already received the nod of approval from triple j’s Nina Las Vegas, The Doctor and unearthed music director, Dave Ruby Howe, alongside FBi Radio and a wave of fellow producers. ‘Bare’ and ‘Need Me’ are razor sharp with layered synths and rolling drums, a sound reminiscent of the big players in the Australian music industry right now. ‘Satisfied’ heads more into the UK garage game with its housey basslines and vocal hooks.
Elsewhere, JAWZ breathes new life into (the untouchable) Stardust – ‘Music Sounds Better With You‘ with a chugging re-edit ready for the floor. His remix of Phantogram’s ‘Fall In Love’ is another stand out, flippin’ the switch with his brand of N64 club music.
Since his love affair with electronic music first began at the age of 14, it’s been a steady rise for the bedroom producer. With an abundance of new music ready for release and national touring dates set to follow this year, some might say there’s a big new fish in town and his name is JAWZ.
