It has been a massive 12 months for Brisbane producer Young Franco. Following the release his latest banger 'Don't You Want Me' (ft. the lovely Blair De Milo) YF took off on his first headline tour of Australia. Luckily we found some time to catch up to talk about pizza and how he's dealing with the quickly increasing influx of love.
UC: You recently had your latest single ‘Don’t You Want Me’ premiered on Anna Lunoe’s Apple Music Radio 1, on the back of your first national headline tour announcement. Where are you most excited to drop this new track over the summer?
YF: Well I've never DJ'ed a boat party before. Especially something as intimate as this! So definitely looking forward to that. There are a few other really cool gigs coming up over the summer with a few close friends so looking forward to those shows too.
UC: The latest tour is being held at mostly live venues over clubs, talk us through the differences in playing to the two crowds?
YF: Yes! Well I think the difference about doing your own shows is that you can really play some cool/weird stuff that you might not be able to in club situations. In saying that I thoroughly enjoy playing clubs too as there is already a vibe and a culture around the venue and usually that translates into some really cool parties.
UC: You also took flight on your first tour across Europe. Give us your highlights? And where did you eat the best pizza?
YF: Definitely a festival called Lost Village was a highlight. 3 Stages in the middle of the English countryside was something I'll never forget. Best pizza was a dodgy stall in Rome somewhere. You know it's good when there are heaps of Italians there and no tourists
UC: If you could B2B in the clurrb with anyone who would it be and why?
YF: DJ Sports hands down, she's my favourite DJ at the moment. Second would probably be Disclosure.
UC: You’ve remixed some huge tracks for Kilter, Safia, Luke Million and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. How do you start the remixing process?
YF: It's kind of different every time. I try to shake it up every time I do a remix and sometimes the ideas come quick. Other times it takes a while to come up with something you like.
UC: Splendour In The Grass 2014, you played between artists on the Red Bull Stage at– this year you played to a capacity crowd on a main stage at the same festival. What was it like playing to so many adoring fans?
YF: Pretty surreal. It's a pretty incredible experience to be part of a festival like that. Amazing crowd and really good vibes.
UC: Ok, you’ve washed up on a deserted island and the universe will send you 3 things. What are you going to ask for?
YF:
Bear Grylls
A knife
Good Wifi Connection
UC: What are your 3 hot tips for this summer?
YF:
Harvey Sutherland
Feki
MXXWLL
UC: Have you ever DJ’d on a floating pontoon on Sydney Harbour before?!! Excited for The Island LIVE?
YF: Haha believe it or not I haven't!! I'm so keen though, I've heard great things
