There's no stopping Sydney duo Set-Mo. Its already been a massive year for the boys and we can't see it slowing down any time soon. They sit down to talk about highlights from their recent tour and who they'll be watching at Splendour In The Grass over the weekend.
UC: Describe your on stage set up and style?
SM: Currently when we play we DJ off 3-4 CDJS and a mixer. Our style varies on when and where we’re playing but includes house, disco and techno so long as the girls are dancing and the guys are shazaming!
UC: How did you celebrate your most recent birthday?
SM: We always celebrate by having a mad feed. This year I took Stu to see Caribou and Stu bought me some sweet new red kicks.
UC: When is the last time you volunteered/donated to charity/did a favour for a mate?
SM: We both do charity work weekly. Stu works for a non-for-profit organisation called Heaps Decent where he does music workshop with under-privileged kids and Nick delivers food every Monday for Meals On Wheels.
UC: What is the most undr ctrl and the most out of ctrl thing in your life right now?
SM: Music and music.
UC: You’ve just wrapped up the club dates on your first National Headline tour playing 12 shows across the country, what were the biggest highlights of the trip? And are you sick of each other yet?!
SM: The last couple of months playing around Australia have been amazing. Going to places we’ve never been before such as Adelaide and Perth was cool. Met a lot of great music loving people along the way. It’s pretty surreal to go to a city you’ve never been and have people singing along to your songs.
UC: You finish the tour at Splendour In The Grass, you must be excited for that?
SM: Nah… duh YES OF COURSE!
UC: Who else are you looking forward to seeing over the weekend?
SM: Mark Ronson, Flight Facilities, Tame Impala, Thandi Phoenix, Deutsch Duke, Seekae,
UC: Your latest single ‘White Dress’ is huge. How did the track come together and how did you and Deutsch Duke get involved?
SM: White Dress was an idea we started after a week in Ibiza last year. We went to London to do some writing and that was one of the first things we wrote. When we came back to Australia we played it to our good mate/studio buddy Deutsch Duke. He was really into it and came up with the idea of a summer romance. We all got in the studio one night and stayed there till 4am writing and recording the vocal. After that it was pretty much done.
UC: Your label etc etc has just put out a video for the track. Tell us about the vibe of the clip and your cameo appearance?!
SM: We wanted the music video to create the same mood as the song itself so if you watched it muted it would still evoke similar emotions. The aim was to make something graceful and reminiscent as the song is about remembering a past love. Our cameo was something we we’re keen on and just kind of came together on the day.
UC: Radio 1’s Annie Mac recently shared the VIP mix of your latest single ‘White Dress’ for her Free Music Monday music download, and the track has been Shazamed over 55,000 times! Mad. How does it feel knowing people all over the world are loving your music?
SM: It’s still a very surreal feeling. We’re so stoked that people have been liking it, buying it, sharing it. We’ve got messages and emails from people in countries we’ve even never been to. Today a mate of ours in Canada text us to say he walked into a bar it was pumping. ☺
UC: You were in Miami for WMC earlier this year and toured through Europe late last year. Is playing internationally something you both aspire to do more in the future?
SM: Most definitely! We love traveling and playing new places.
UC: Do you have a bucket list of gigs you wanna play in your careers, and what’s in the Top 3?
1. Would love to play in the Opera House one day.
2. Ibiza somewhere when the sun is coming up.
3. Burning Man.
PLEASE NOTE: Stixxy have you got all this UNDR crtl?
