“The raw energy and affection can be felt in his production” Earmilk
It’s a special moment when an artist transitions from ‘one to watch’, to becoming recognized by the global industry, and that moment is now for Sydney electronic beatmaker MUTO. Following on from a breakthrough six months, the young producer is set to make international waves with his new single Say Nothing.
Late last year, his instrumental rollercoaster Through The Fog, garnered cult-like support in Australia highlighted by overwhelming support from Triple J (2nd most played track of the week), championed by Kingsmill, Dom, Zan and the Unearthed team, on top of consistent rotation on FBi, George FM, Syn and a plethora of community radio. This led to his recent emotionally driven, electronic adventure, Wildfire. With the Australian support again unparalleled, MUTO was now at the forefront of global tastemakers and industry representatives leading to him being signed across Europe by Virgin/EMI and picked up by the same booking agent as Flume, Disclosure and SBTRKT. Now, with news of his debut 7-track EP coming in October, MUTO has delivered his most accessible work to date with new single Say Nothing.
A synthetic journey wrapped in warmth, Say Nothing is a masterfully crafted groove. Premiered last night on Triple J's Good Nights program, Say Nothing was backed up by its debut spin on BBC Radio 1 from tastemaker Huw Stephens overnight. With a slightly more 4/4 influence in the percussion, MUTO’s ability to find light and shade in his production is met perfectly with the dark and mellow tones of Brisbane vocalist Emerson Leif. The subtleties in the track are what makes this one such a feel good head nodder. There is an air of confidence and understated sensualness that resonates throughout the lyrics and production, leaving you with an indirect feeling of nostalgia and excitement.
In line with the release of the single, MUTO is embarking on a giant run of shows across Australia and Europe. With every MUTO show to date being SOLD OUT, the high demand for his live performances is no surprise, however MUTO was truly humbled recently after being personally picked by electronic powerhouse Odesza to play on their ‘A Moment Apart’ European album tour commencing in October. Totalling a whopping 30 shows (tour dates below) across the next three months, it’s safe to say that he will be well-accustomed to the stage by the end of the year.
With a debut EP set for release, a global tour booked and his new single being worked by a global team, it’s set up to be a wonderful end to 2017 for MUTO.
