Luen Jacobs - 'AUS Tour'
Luen Jacobs (triple j / TAXX) - National DJ Tour
DJ, triple j presenter, and the creative driving force between Hand Games and TAXX, Luen Jacobs is a familiar face in our Australian music family. Now, the Sydney-based talent heads out on her 12 date inaugural headline DJ tour, presented by UNDR Ctrl.
DJing at a stack of club venues and festivals, Luen has recently returned from presenting and selecting on main stages across Groovin’ the Moo’s National Festival tour, is preparing to play Splendour in the Grass this July, following stints at Strawberry Fields, Secret Garden Festival, Tasmania’s Dark MOFO and more.
Luen’s also known to many as one of triple j’s lively hosts – a long-time member of the jjj’s family; she’s currently a weekly late night presenter, and has filled in for the station heavyweights on Good Nights, House Party and Weekend Arvos. Luen is always digging deep to source fresh crop talent; her consistently awesome finds have built her reputation as a woman of great taste and has led to her throwing parties for the likes of VICE and Ableton.
As founder of the online mixtape series and management company Hand Games, Luen (then aged 21), hand-sourced over 300 of Australia’s most forward-thinking bands and producers for monthly compilations. To this day, Hand Games remains a widely recognised project, along with Luen’s more recent work developing the brand TAXX, which includes mixtapes, parties, a residency at FBi Radio and forthcoming vinyl and zine releases. Luen digs sonic inspiration from dance, experimental and traditional music worldwide.
Jacobs will begin her tour in Byron Bay for Splendour In The Grass before heading around the country, stopping by Canberra and Brisbane to throw her own TAXX Parties, bringing with her Sydney producer Patch Free (Butter Sessions/ Hot Haus). Luen’s infectious energy - she often jumps up on the mic and involves her audience - coupled with her impeccable taste and desire to entertain, is sure to make these shows memorable.
"I’d like to remove ideas of what a DJ’s supposed to be,” says Luen of what she hopes to achieve with her sets, “My aim is to play progressive music in a way that makes people want to move, not to chinstroke. I’m comfortable and excited by my music choices and want to create environments where people feel comfortable yet excited too.”
