TROY BEMAN

As a teenager, Troy Beman found himself immersed in Sydney’s club scene just before the lockout laws were enacted taking aim at widespread violence. In the years the government placed drastic curbs on hours that limited artistic freedom, Troy found unusual success booking talent and producing parties in a downturn for the wider community. Still wanting to hear a certain sound and energy he felt was missing, he began deejaying some of Sydney & Melbournes best parties/clubs – from the offbeat left of center to the queer (Poof Doof) and iconic (Revolver, Club77 & Lost Sundays).

The evolution from booker and promoter to performer and artist was a natural one for Troy – his family nurtured an eclectic taste in music from an early age.  A classically trained pianist, Troy has developed a signature sound that consistently pushes boundaries and tempo, setting trends with a healthy respect for classics. Drawing sets from a deep well of musical knowledge, Troy takes every chance to pay homage to the artistic forebears whose contributions have made his career (and dance music writ large) possible, many of them marginalized, LGBTQ+ people of color.

Consistent appearances across the country on direct support for mainstays like Honey Dijon, Kevin Saunderson, Tiga & HAAi have garnered the attention of bookers and producers far past Australia’s shores. 2023 promises to be an impressive year for Troy, having relocated to London UK for his residency at XOYO with DJ Heidi for the month of July. He will rightfully take on dancefloors with the best of them in the UK, Europe and North America for the remainder of the year.
