AROHA (NZ)

TERRITORIES: AUS / NZ / ASIA

AROHA is a Māori DJ and producer from Aotearoa (New Zealand), now based in Naarm (Melbourne), known for electrifying, genre-blurring club sets rooted in global underground sounds. From Glastonbury to Boiler Room, she has built an international reputation for high-energy sets that move fluidly across styles and tempos.

Equally at home playing sunshine-laced house music to a daytime festival crowd as she is unleashing underground bass heaters in a packed club, AROHA blends rhythm, identity and storytelling to create powerful dancefloor moments.

Voted New Zealand’s Best Club DJ in 2013, she has shared stages with artists including Grace Jones, Disclosure, Kaytranada, Ben UFO, Groove Armada and 2ManyDJs. Festival appearances include Glastonbury, Pitch Music & Arts, Beyond The Valley, Let Them Eat Cake, WOMADelaide, Rhythm & Vines, Splore, Gaytimes, Electric Avenue and Northern Bass.

AROHA’s career spans broadcasting, music culture and global artist development. From her early days as a prime-time host on George FM, Programme Director at the iconic 95bFM and music television presenter, she later moved into leadership roles at Serato and Ableton, helping shape artist and community strategy for music technology on the world stage.

Her 2020 debut EP No More Jenga introduced a bold production style that earned early support from RÜFÜS DU SOL and Dillinja and led to remixes for POOLCLVB, Antix and Kédu Carlö. Since then her releases have received support from artists such as CC:DISCO!, Oliver Dollar, Sam Divine, SHOUSE and Zombie Disco Squad.

Recent years have seen AROHA’s profile rise internationally with a Boiler Room appearance, a 16-date tour with The Jungle Giants, a 19-show run at the WOW (World of Wearable Art) international design spectacle, and London performances at Colour Factory with Lady Shaka and XOYO for Heidi’s Hi-Jacked residency.

In 2024 she released These Walls with world-renowned MC TALI, featuring taonga pūoro played by Tiki Taane, followed by Let Her Rip (Toitū Te Tiriti), a protest track sampling MP Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke’s stand in parliament. The track went viral, amassing over a million views in a week and receiving support from Boiler Room, Radio New Zealand and George FM while charting across Aotearoa’s student radio network.

In 2025 she opened for 2ManyDJs and Groove Armada and performed at Corsica Studios in London and RASA Space in Singapore. She also released her Mother Tongue EP, inspired by trailblazing women in music, alongside a remix of Time for Meanjin (Brisbane)-based First Nations artist GLVES.

AROHA began 2026 with her remix of Reconnected by Communicate and MissB for Aotearoa label XCOMMUNICATE. Her collaboration with TALI, These Walls, was also added to Air New Zealand’s pre-flight music rotation. Several new releases are planned for 2026, including collaborations with fellow Māori electronic artists that further connect her production to her ancestry.
